Solo Play

Solo mode means one player runs Nanus without a referee.

Use the Nanus core rules for character creation, exploration, encounters, combat, and advancement.

Use the Solo pages for unanswered questions, run structure, and one-PC combat support.

Solo Loop

  1. Choose a goal.
  2. Define the target and immediate approach.
  3. Enter the site and run normal Nanus turns.
  4. When something is unknown, ask the oracle.
  5. Resolve danger, recover value, and decide whether to push or head back.
  6. Return to safety, bank value, and update the world state.

What Solo Play Needs

  • a clear goal
  • a way to answer unknown questions
  • a way to generate complications
  • a way to survive party-scaled threats

Use These Pages Together

  • Character Creation for building the PC
  • Exploration for turn procedure
  • Encounters and Combat for direct action
  • Character Advancement for return-based progress
  • Solo Expedition Procedure for oracle use and run flow
  • Solo Combat Adjustments for one-PC survivability

Retainer Loyalty in Solo Play

When retainers are present, check loyalty only when fiction supports it.

Common triggers:

  • the retainer was treated unfairly
  • the retainer was exposed to extraordinary danger
  • the retainer witnessed something terrifying
  • the group pursued goals that conflict with the retainer's interests

Do not run automatic loyalty checks only because a run ended.
