Exploration Procedure

Expeditions follow a repeatable pressure loop:

  1. Set a goal, route, backup plan, and carried gear.
  2. Enter danger and spend turns under exposure.
  3. Recover value.
  4. Get back alive.

Time Scales

  • Overland: watches (long travel blocks)
  • Exploration: 10-minute turns
  • Encounters: 10-second rounds

Turn Procedure

  1. Check encounter risk.
  2. Move, map, and interact.
  3. Resolve checks, hazards, and contact.
  4. Update light, load, and position.

Movement and Load

  • Base exploration movement: 120 feet per turn.
  • Base encounter movement: 40 feet per round.
  • Apply load penalties from inventory state.

When no reliable guidepath exists, navigation checks may be required.

On failure, movement continues on an incorrect heading until corrected.

Visibility

Track active light, bearer, and remaining supply.

Night vision reads contrast only and cannot replace active light for fine tasks.
